Lai Wah's Place (丽华的地方)

I've been on the hunt for some authentic Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese and Chinese food lately. I love my sushi, pho, Vietnamese subs, General Tso's and Sesame chicken, but I want to expand my palette. I am literally up for anything. I know if you want Mexican food, San Antonio is the spot, but let's see what's poppin in the Asian scene.

Here is Lai Wah's Place, recommended by a few other forums sites, its located at the corner of Callaghan and Fredericksburg here in San Antonio. Today, my good friend JD went with me. We started off with egg drop and hot and sour soups, both of which were very tasty, smooth and not too runny. Next we had some pan friend dumplings. I've had frozen potstickers from the local grocer, but that was a joke compared to these. They came out at the perfect temperature and with a quick bath in the sweet and salty sauce that came with them, they screamed with taste and now I have a new favorite appetizer. For our main dishes, JD had their Golden Dragon chicken. It was a very sweet honey sauce over large boneless sauteed chicken chunks. Very good and a very relaxing dish. I kicked it up a bit with the twice cooked pork and the chicken in black bean sauce. Both of which were fantastic. The pork was very tasty and spicy, and all the veggies were cooked perfectly. The chicken in black bean sauce was definitely my favorite. I love black beans, but I had never had a taste like this before, nice and sweet, very tender and juicy chicken strips and a fantastic medley of veggies made for a swell meal. I will definitely return and try something new again.
